In chemical engraving, the areas that will remain raised are coated using screen printing, before the component is dipped into acid or alkaline baths.The depth of the engraving may vary from 0.01mm to 0.3mm to suit the desired effect.

A variety of finishes are available by filling the engraving with paint.
